Today I’m so excited to share my Easy Mermaid Makeup Halloween Tutorial where I’ll teach you step-by-step how to look like a mermaid.
This mermaid makeup look is so pretty and simple to create using this colorful drugstore eyeshadow palette and fishnet tights, and features beautiful pastel and glitter shades of pink, purple, blue, and green for a gorgeous, fantastical/ethereal look.

Although I always enjoy creating Halloween makeup looks, I must say this mermaid makeup look has to be one of my top favorites.
I just love all the soft + pretty pastel colors, the beautiful, shimmery mermaid fish scales, and of course I loved being able to use my favorite pink wig.
It’s the same one I used in my Colorful Fairy Makeup Look a few years back, and I knew it’d be the perfect choice for a mermaid look.

How do I look like a mermaid?
Anyone can look like a mermaid and it’s easy with my simple mermaid makeup tutorial.
Simply grab this colorful drugstore eyeshadow palette, fishnet tights, a pink/purple wig, starfish hair crown, and face gems.
For a mermaid costume, all you need is this pink top and mermaid skirt.
How do you do mermaid eye makeup?
To create mermaid eye makeup, use your favorite pastel eyeshadow colors and blend it out for a soft, fantasy-like, ethereal look.
The great thing about mermaid eye makeup, is you can use any colors you want and it doesn’t have to be super precise, just blended.
What can you use for mermaid scales?
The easiest way to create mermaid scales is to use Fishnet Tights or a Fishnet Wig Cap, and dab on colorful eyeshadow or face paint.
Alternatively, you can use mermaid scale stencils, although I find those a bit more difficult to work with since they don’t always stick to the skin very well.
How to Do Mermaid Makeup with Fishnet (Step-by-Step Tutorial)

Follow my easy step-by-step tutorial below to turn yourself into a beautiful mermaid this Halloween.

Mermaid Costume:
Step 1: Apply Foundation and Concealer
To create this mermaid look, first start by applying matte foundation and concealer to even out skin tone and brighten up the face.
Step 2: Create Mermaid Eye Makeup
For the mermaid eye makeup look, you’re going to use beautiful purple, turquoise, blue, and pink pastel shades from this colorful eyeshadow palette. I love that this gives it a soft, ethereal look.
First, use a fluffy eyeshadow and apply the turquoise eyeshadow shade “take flight” in the crease, using windshield wiper motions and blending outward beyond the natural eye shape for added drama.
I also used the blue shade “macaw” to intensify the color a bit.
Next, use a shader eyeshadow brush and apply the purple shade “island” to the crease.
Continue packing the purple shade on the lid until you reach the desired level of intensity.
Use the eyeshadow brush to blend it outward and upward at a slight angle.
Lastly, use the deep shade purple “adventure” and blend in the outer crease between the turquoise and light purple, until seamless.
Step 3: Create Mermaid Scales
Complete the mermaid eye makeup by applying the shimmer eyeshadow “hot tropic” to the eyelid using your fingers.
To create the mermaid scales, use fishnet tights or a fishnet wig cap and place over your face.
Use an eyeshadow brush and dab eyeshadow one shade at a time around the hairline and along the top of the cheekbones. You will also bring it down to form a v between the brows.
I applied the eyeshadow in this order for a beautiful gradient effect: Dark pink “vacay”, fuchsia “tail feather”, purple “island”, blue “macaw”, turquoise “take flight”.
Tip: Make sure you dab the eyeshadow firmly into the skin, as opposed to brushing it on. If you try to just brush it on, the mermaid scales will be too subtle.
Step 4: Add Shimmer, Mascara, and Lipstick
Remove the fishnet and use a small contouring brush to dab highlighter over top the mermaid scales and on the top of your nose.
Again, make sure you dab the product on so that you don’t mess up your mermaid scales and so that your highlighter shows up more noticeably.
Next, fill in your brows, apply 1-2 coats of black mascara, and lipstick.
I used this gorgeous pink/red lipstick and added my favorite plumping lip gloss (save 15% with KINDLY15) on top to make the lips look fuller.
I also applied gold eyeliner to the bottom inner rim of my eyes and the green/gold shade “fiesta” to the tear duct for a beautiful pop of shimmer.
Step 5: Add Wig, Jewels, and Starfish Crown
To complete this gorgeous mermaid makeup look, put on a colorful Pink/Purple Wig.
If you have long hair, you can skip the wig and just curl your hair to resemble beachy mermaid waves.
Use bobby pins to pin your hair back on both sides and pin in a gorgeous Starfish Hair Crown until secure.
Next, apply Face Gems/Pearls to the temples of the face.
